Mental Health Counseling Intern
I am a nature-loving Australian, navigating the trials and tribulations that come with calling New York City home. I have a background in nursing and received my degree in Sydney, Australia at the University of Technology. Before arriving in New York, I also volunteered as a paramedic in Tel Aviv, Israel. While the medical field gave me a breadth of knowledge on disease and biology, I was always more interested in patients’ stories. My curiosity, compassion, and humor in connecting with patients helped me realize my true passion lay in the heart of the mind. Thus I went on to pursue a Master’s in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at New York University.
During my time in nursing and paramedics, I worked with adults, teenagers and children of diverse backgrounds and vastly differing needs. I saw how taking time each day to learn about each person alleviated their feelings of isolation and loneliness. This experience taught me the power of listening as a tool to enter each individual’s world, and view them through their own unique lens.
Given my background in nursing, and from my own life experience, I am interested in how repressed emotions can manifest somatically. Being an expat has piqued my desire to help others navigate general life transitions, identity exploration and quarter-life crises. My work is grounded in a psychodynamic and humanistic approach. Together, we will work through how past experiences, conflicts, and relationships have informed the lens through which you see yourself and the world around you. Coming to know these patterns can set in motion a life-long process of personal growth, self-knowledge, and empowerment.
Allowing a therapist into your inner world takes courage, and I hope to use our relationship as a catalyst for change. Taking this step is a tremendous act of dedication to yourself and your happiness.
I can offer sliding scale, as well as either in-person or virtual sessions. You can fill out a brief intake here or schedule a free consultation here if you’re interested in working together.
